5:30pm Post-Op
Jack's surgery was roughly 7 hours. It was longer than expected because Dr. Kouretas had to reconfigure the Glenn, to work the Fontan into the tiny little space he was working with. So all is well, Jack now has an 18 gortex conduit in his chest that his getting nice bloodflow to his lower half. He is TRULY a different color. He looks amazing. We just extubated, and he is breathing well on his own. They are just starting to administer pain medication. He isn't very awake, but will open his eyes and look around at us, and sometimes try to move. His arms are restrained slightly right now, to avoid him pulling any tubes out. There are 3 chest tubes in to drain the fluid, then an IV is on his foot, he is getting blood through his other foot, there is an arterial line in his hand, and a central line going into his neck. So he's a bit tangled up. The only pictures we have right now are from our phones... So forgive the lack of resolution.
We will most likely be here for the night, and we will take shifts being with him. They would like to have him off of the HEAVY pain medications before they move him to recovery.
Thanks again for our awesome visitors, and all those keeping in touch with us during this time. We love you all, and Jack appreciates the prayers and support.
(Ok, I am not allowed to upload pictures onto this computer. I'll try again later. Just picture Jack with a bunch of lines and cords all over him, looking like he is sleepy, but much PINKER than he usually is, and you'll get the idea.)
